We need help picking up refugees, getting them acclimated to Gdynia, helping them get documentation so they can work and go to school.
Already some of our moms have gotten jobs at local florists and kids have enrolled in school
Part of our mission is to play a part in the “Information War” so the world knows what is happening on the ground inside Ukraine and what is happening to the women and children refugees impacted by this war.
Help us by joining the conversation on twitter @hummingbird_us (like, follow, retweet). We are a bunch of moms that just learned twitter too!
We do not have Facebook or Instragram yet, so contact us if you can help set up and manage it.
These people have lost their homes, their livelihoods and every aspect of their daily lives have been turned upside down.
They want to go back to normalcy or as close as they can to it. These women when they come to Gdynia, they are looking for jobs.
Here is how you can support:
Britni Erez joined the Hummingbird Effort Foundation’s “volunteer” team after sending a simple text to her friend, Dorota, to check and make sure Dorota’s family was okay given the crisis in Ukraine. Dorota’s simple response of “I started a foundation” was all that was needed for Britni to join Dorota and Maja to help Ukrainian refugees.
Britni is no stranger to helping to start grassroots organizations. Following the 2004 Tsunami, Britni helped two doctors start a disaster relief foundation in Khao Lak, Thailand. She interned for UNDP while in graduate school, worked in field research in Malawi and most recently in 2021 co-led a hyper local movement in lower Manhattan called #Pausethesaws which led to the creation of the Battery Park City Neighborhood Association where she is currently a founding board member.
Britni earned her BA from the University of California, Berkeley and an MBA and Masters in Public Policy for the University of Michigan. For the past ten years, she has worked in Corporate Finance at American Express.
